Ranks (pups and elders have no ranking)
-
Wing- There are two of these, usually. They're similar to the alpha pair, but they aren't always mates. They do not breed-- it would, as the original creator said, distract them from their duties. The Wings tend to be a hint too equal with their subordinates, but usually they come off as likeable and good leaders-- more intelligent wolves, however, may think the opposite. The pack has one more harsh Wing and one gentle Wing (Hard Wing and Soft Wing for short), to hold a balance over the Pack. The next Wings are chosen through a vote -- which more often than not may fall apart -- on what two wolves are the closest in the Pack.
Heart- This wolf manages the religious affairs of the group, boasting a very strict sense of mind on the spiritual stance the Pack of Ashes takes. Next Hearts are chosen through a process by the gentle Wing (which is, at the moment, finding the most religious wolf who has raised pups) which is then checked by the opposite Wing. They also serve as encouragement for the Pack when the Soft Wing is absent.
Leader of the Skins- Straightforward. They also serve as a punisher/executioner when the Hard Wing is absent.
Skins- The amount of wolves at this rank is limitless. They serve as the tough guards of the Pack, defending the elderly and young, and are chosen at birth based on build and ancestry.
Leader of the Fangs- Straightforward. They often are assisted by elite Fangs in battle strategy, and may be able to operate without guidance of the Wings.
Fangs- These wolves are the fighters of the Pack, learning advanced tactics few others can master. Strategists and actual fighters fall into this group, not showing much real separation.
Leader of the Claws- Straightforward.
Claws- These are the hunters of the Pack, functioning quite similar to the Fangs but having a tendency to be less brutal in nature. They work very closely with the Noses, who track down the prey for them.
Eyes- There are two of these-- essentially the Wings of scouting. They search for ideal places to settle for a half-moon and tend to be great thinkers. When in battle or land situations, they lead the Noses, who help them in their quest.
Noses- Scouts/trackers that are at roughly the same position as the Claws. In hunting situations, they're also lead by the same wolf, as the strategies tend to overlap. However, when scouting for new land, they're lead by the Eyes if the pair requires assistance.
Furs- These are the wolves that don't fall into any of the above rankings, or ascended Tails. Usually, it's hard to fit into this position.
Teachers- Wolves that are skilled in their job (as a Fang, Eye, Nose, etc.) that lead Teachpacks and educate a small pack of Learners. They're sworn into their position until death.
Learners- Wolves in Teachpacks being educated by the Mentors. Will be explained in Education.
Tails- These wolves have been punished, but are too young or old to be exiled as it would guarantee death. They can also be loners that have just come in and are seeking out their position in the Pack.
Pack Laws-
1) You mustn't needlessly assert your position to any ranking other than a Tail.
2) Teachers are to only educate their Learners in the art of whatever Rank they will be entering-- anything else is useless knowledge.
3) The following reasons are to never be questioned for demotion to Tail or worse: relationships over the border, extreme disrespect towards a higher ranking (including the Gods), and the severe injury of a fellow pack member, if unaccidental.
